backwater

Think of those places at the corner of a field; dank humid pools and waterholes, unloved, unwanted and largely unseen. This is the domain of backwater, dedicated to shining a new light on these habitats, revealing their hidden beauty through the spectrum of infrared.

My intention with backwater was to create a series of photographs with atmosphere, presence, personality and artistic character. All of the images were taken within a twenty minutes walk from my front door, hopefully proving that road miles are unnecessary to create a series from almost nothing, but also to restore the idea that beauty can be found in the most unlikely places in our environment.

By utilising 720nm infrared as my intermediary in this series, the images are not colour edited out of camera and hopefully elevate the idea of how a particular frequency of light can add a new dimension to what is usually seen, or largely in this case unseen. I hope you enjoy your meander through my backwater.
